Minerals for Life™ water-soluble Copper is a dietary supplement containing elemental copper.

Copper is classified as an essential mineral because copper is needed by all tissues. Copper is usually found in foods containing iron. Copper supports efficient utilization of iron and protein and assists with normal digestion.*

The liver and brain contain the largest amounts of copper in the human body, with smaller amounts in other organs.*

Copper is needed by all tissues. It is involved in the production of collagen, the protein responsible for the structural integrity of bone, cartilage, skin, and tendon.* It is also involved in the production of elastin, the protein that is mainly responsible for the elastic properties of blood vessels and skin. Further, copper is a component of the enzyme copper-zinc dismutase and the protein ceruloplasmin, both of which inhibit free radical formation.*

If the body does not acquire a sufficient amount of copper, the production of hemoglobin, the carrier of oxygen in the blood, is decreased.

Copper also promotes the maintenance of good skin health and contributes to healthy respiration and general strength.*

Long-term use of oral contraceptives can upset the balance of copper in the body.

Copper can also contribute to healthy and normal cholesterol levels.

Copper contributes to mental and emotional health and well-being.*

Copper helps to maintain the structural integrity of cell membranes, allowing for normal body functioning.*

Copper is a component of the protein ceruloplasmin and the enzyme copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, both of which inhibit free radical formation.* The protein ceruloplasmin is an acute phase reactant, meaning that as “insults” to the body accumulate, ceruloplasmin will also increase in direct proportion to help promote healthy immune status.* Copper also is a vital component of the human enzyme copper-zinc superoxide dismutase, another potent antioxidant.*

Copper is heavily involved in the production of hemoglobin, the carrier of oxygen in the blood. Copper also plays a role in the body’s formation of strong, flexible connective tissue, and in the proper cross-linking of collagen and elastin.* Elastin is a major component of large blood vessels, and its proper maintenance helps to promote normal cardiovascular health.*
